Samrawit’s father tragically drowned before she was even born. This left her and her older sister in the sole care of her mother, who struggles to support her family. She only has a cleaning job that does not provide enough for even their most basic needs. Thankfully, Samrawit is in good health and has been able to remain in school. She is a good student and is now attending a local secondary school.

Samrawit lives in the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. Amharic is the main language spoken in this area.
