Gilbert’s father died of heart failure in 2024, leaving him and his sister in the sole care of their mother, who has been blind since age twelve. They all live in a one-room house. Thankfully, Gilbert is a healthy boy, and he has been able to begin preschool at a local primary school.
Gilbert lives in a village near Kiburara, Uganda. Runyankore and Rukiga are the main languages spoken in this area. Kiburara is also home to Hope Community School, established by Covenant Mercies in 2020.
