Alpha & Omega Secondary School offers continuity of care for children in Kiburara, Uganda
Uganda+Education Doug HayesInvesting into the education of our sponsored children has become an increasingly important tool for Covenant Mercies, as we seek to break cycles of poverty and help them become everything God has created them to be. Building and developing our own schools not only enables us to ensure a higher quality education for our children; it also multiplies our gospel opportunities and gives us a primary shaping influence on their lives throughout their formative years.
Since 2019, we have been developing Hope Community Primary School in Kiburara, Uganda. As we continue growing that school year by year, we anticipate the day when our students will graduate from Grade 7 and make their transition to Secondary School. With this future day in mind, we’ve begun developing a new campus for Alpha & Omega Secondary School (A&O) over the past year.
We are seeking to raise $80,000 between now and May 31, 2025 for the completion of Phase One of this project. Click here to make an online gift.
About Alpha & Omega
As noted in our 2024 Annual Report, A&O is an existing school with an existing campus. However, the current campus is somewhat crowded, with boys’ and girls’ dorms (Secondary School is almost always a boarding arrangement in Uganda), plus several classroom buildings and labs all squeezed onto a little over 2 acres. So last year, we developed a site plan for a nearby 6-acre plot, with a strategy to migrate the school to the new campus in time for the 2028 school year. Thereafter, we plan to repurpose A&O’s current campus for vocational studies, which will meet a critical need both for the children in our program and the community at large.
I couldn’t be more excited about the continuity of care this represents for Covenant Mercies. Right there in Kiburara, we now have the opportunity to provide quality Christian education, starting from our children’s earliest years at Hope Community and continuing on through the conclusion of their Secondary School years at A&O. Furthermore, both campuses are just a short walk from our partner church in Kiburara, facilitating our goal to see our students integrated into the broader gospel ministry of the church.
With this 2028 migration in view, we are ambitiously including six buildings in Phase One, projected to cost just under $500,000. Thanks to some very generous gifts and pledges, construction is well underway and we presently stand only $80,000 short of that Phase One goal.
Would you consider making a generous contribution toward our $80,000 goal, and help us develop A&O into a campus that reflects the all-around standard of excellence we’re aiming to uphold in all our Covenant Mercies partnerships?
