A Special Mapalo Thank You

Education+Testimonies+Updates+Mapalo Scholarship Fund // June 14, 2019 //

Through the generous support of our Mapalo Scholarship Fund campaign donors last year, Covenant Mercies raised over $60,000 to support higher education opportunities for Orphan Sponsorship Program graduates.

We are pleased to announce that our 2019 applications have been received and reviewed, and Covenant Mercies has awarded seven new scholarships to students in Uganda, Zambia, and Ethiopia. We look forward to awarding an increasing number of scholarships in the years to come.

Two of our Mapalo graduates recently joined the Covenant Mercies staff, stewarding the blessing of their education back into their home communities. Alex Obedo is our new Program Accountant in Eastern Uganda, and Primus Tusiime is serving in Western Uganda as a new caseworker.

We also wanted you to hear directly from a current Mapalo scholar as she expresses her gratitude and describes God’s work in her life over the past year. Bridget was one of the first sponsored children in our Western Uganda program, enrolling when she was 11 years old in 2008. She is now preparing to graduate from Kyambogo University in Kampala. A few weeks ago, she wrote:

I am most thankful to God for having carried me throughout my course of study, ever since I joined primary school up to where I am now, most especially now that [I] am about to attain my Bachelor’s degree in Education. I really owe all my progress to the Almighty God because it’s been Him since day one…. He is very able and His plans are far better than my own understanding because I never dreamt that at one time, I would also reach this far in my academic journey.”

“Being a Mapalo Scholarship recipient makes me feel proud always as I rejoice in God’s favourite plans for my life. This is because I’ve grown up in a society where most children, especially the orphans, do not get a chance to proceed with their studies after primary level due to financial challenges. However, with the help of Covenant Mercies and Mapalo Scholarship program, I’ve managed to proceed with my studies up to where I am now. Indeed Covenant Mercies has been a blessing to me and my family as a whole.

Because of the generosity of Covenant Mercies donors, orphaned children in Sub-Saharan Africa are becoming young men and women who are making a difference today in their families, churches, and communities. We are truly grateful for our partners around the world who make this possible.
