A Bird’s Eye View of Our New Primary School
Orphans+Uganda+Education+Updates+Western Uganda Primary School Doug HayesExtreme poverty is a multifaceted issue. In order to address the various challenges facing our sponsored children in a well-rounded, culturally appropriate and sustainable way, Covenant Mercies partners with indigenous local churches and communities. Through these collaborations, the grace of God, and seventeen years of ministry experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, we have learned many things– among them, that effectively breaking cycles of poverty means a significant and intentional investment in the education of our children.
Building Into Young Lives
We believe God has given each child unique gifts as His image-bearers (Genesis 1:27), and those gifts should be cultivated for His glory. Each sponsored child has a tailored learning plan and attends school through the completion of secondary school or vocational school, and free tutoring is available for students as needed.
The early years of education build crucial foundations for future growth. Yet in rural Western Uganda– home to our largest Sponsorship Program– schools can be overcrowded, understaffed, and inadequately equipped. To truly build into the lives of our sponsored children and foster their academic potential, we believe it is vital to develop a primary school in their region.
That’s why on March 4th, we broke ground on a new school in Kiburara, Uganda.
As Phase One construction continues to progress, we plan to open the doors to Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 students in February 2020 for the start of the Ugandan school year. In time, this school will serve approximately 300 students annually in Pre-K through to Grade 7.
How You Can Help
The first phase of construction is expected to cost $250,000. This includes two classroom buildings (consisting of three classrooms each), an administrative building, a kitchen, a recreation field, latrines, and faculty housing (a requirement by Ugandan law). Thanks to the incredible generosity of leading donors, we are 80% to our goal with $200,000 raised.
In order to build the second classroom building, we need to raise $50,000.
Will you partner with us in this effort, and help bring a quality education to the children of Kiburara, Uganda? To make a gift today, visit our Donate page and select “Western Uganda Primary School” from the Campaign box.
