Highlights from a trip to Uganda
Orphans+Education+Sponsorship+Family Guest BloggerPictured above, Rachel Maezano (second from left) met her sponsored children during a trip to Uganda this summer. We’re delighted to share Rachel’s personal testimony below:
One word to describe my experience visiting the location, staff, and children I sponsor in western Uganda is PRICELESS! It makes me think of Matthew 6:19-21: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
I had the amazing opportunity to meet the children I am sponsoring (Resty, Joab, Balam and his mother) during my recent trip to Kiburara. This experience allowed me to see with my own eyes the fruits of Covenant Mercies’ labor and the investment I have made in God’s kingdom through sponsoring these children. Meeting the children I sponsor was a very special moment! Seeing their joyful faces, hearing their gratitude, and talking about their hopes and dreams gave a whole new meaning to the work of the Lord through Covenant Mercies. I was impressed by their good English, and though I could not communicate directly with Balam’s mother, I still could feel her gratitude and joy in meeting with me. How sweet it was to stare at their smiles while they thanked me for enabling them to go to school. And this is such a small thing compared with what God can and will do in their lives through the gospel!
The education and environment these children are growing up with sets them apart for the future God has prepared for each one of them. My heart was full as I visited their classrooms and heard about the way the teachers and Covenant Mercies staff pour into their lives and intentionally share the love of Christ with them “in word and deed” (1 John 3:18). They are not only receiving quality education, but their physical needs are being met with daily nutritional meals and a full time nurse who makes sure they are in good health. In addition, this ministry has a ripple effect as it overflows to their families and communities with the hope of the gospel. I could see in their eyes the hope that is in them because they are learning about God’s love for them and the fact that their lives have a purpose. It is a privilege to participate in God’s work by supporting Covenant Mercies. Only a majestic God could make all of this happen for his glory!
