Meklit’s father was tragically murdered in 2016. This left her and her brother in the sole car of their mother who does not have a job and only generates a small amount of income by washing clothes for people. Thankfully, Meklit is a healthy girl and she has been able to remain in school. She is currently in second grade at a local primary school.
Meklit lives in the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. Amharic is the main language spoken in this area.Â
