Hanan’s father died of kidney disease in 2020, leaving her in the sole care of her mother who occasionally washes clothes for people but does not generate enough income to provide for even their most basic needs. Thankfully, Hanan is a healthy girl and she has been able to remain in school in spite of their financial circumstances. She is currently in fourth grade at a local primary school.

Hanan lives in the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. Amharic is the main language spoken in this area.
